Meet Timber Ridge School’s 2026 Ring of Honor Honorees

Eight superb members of our community were recognized at this year’s 2026 Ring of Honor Ceremony. In one of our most treasured annual traditions, Timber Ridge School recognizes members of our community for their personal successes and contributions to the school.

These deserving honorees are staff-nominated in the categories of Supporter, Student Alumni, and Staff/Coach. We couldn’t be more excited to recognize the ways that these individuals have tirelessly given back to our school over the years.

Without further ado, meet the 2026 Ring of Honor honorees:

Supporter Honorees

Sheriff Lenny Millholland

We’re proud to share that Sheriff Lenny Millholland is Timber Ridge School’s 2026 Ring of Honor Honoree in the Supporter Category. As Frederick County Sheriff, he has provided direct assistance to campus for over 20 years, ensuring the safety and well-being of students and staff. He has made a lasting impact on the school’s operations and presence.

Sheriff Millholland also personally sponsors an annual student special recognition award and has played a pivotal role in the school’s growth, serving as Co-Chair on the Steering Committees for the Ricketts Gymnasium and CTE Academy capital campaigns. His dedication reflects a deep commitment to the Timber Ridge School community.

Janice Ross

Janice Ross has been helping our students feel comfortable, secure, and safe since 1994. She arrived at Timber Ridge School as the housemother, ensuring our students were comfortable right from admission; supplying them with necessary items such as clothing, bedding, hygiene supplies, but mostly with a welcome smile and a kind word.

In 2022, Janice moved to the dietary department where she would ensure students not only had the meals they needed, but ones they liked. An excellent cook, and a supporter of athletics, Janice would readily agree to assist with additional meal prep for team events, volunteer her services for tailgate parties, late night meals and support all the games, often assisting with concessions if asked.

Janice was always reliable and the students loved having her involved. She served TRS for 21 years before retiring.

Student Alumni Honorees

Aaron Aleshire

Aaron Aleshire graduated from Timber Ridge School in June 2017, where he was both class President and the starting tight end for our Titans’ football team.

Following his graduation from Timber Ridge, he continued his academic career at Shepherd University. Aaron remained a Shepherd Ram until January of 2019. He then transferred to West Virginia University, where he earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in Economics in May of 2022. He then enrolled in a Masters program, graduating in 2023 with his Master of Science in Economics.

Roy Henries

Last year, in a heartwarming tribute to Timber Ridge, former student Roy Henries attended our 2025 Ring of Honor ceremony, where he presented the school with his Ron McDole Football Award, earned during his time as a student. He described this gesture as bringing the award “home,” a symbolic tribute to the school that means so much to him.

This year, we are excited to share that Roy Henries will be recognized as a 2026 Ring of Honor honoree in the Student Alumni category.

Roy Henries, born in February 1967, found a defining chapter of his life at Timber Ridge School, where he arrived at just 10 years old. From 1977 to 1983, the school became more than a place of education; it became his home.

During his time there, Roy formed deep and lasting bonds with the staff, who became like family to him, filling roles as mentors, caregivers, and parental figures. He has reflected on this period as one marked by the unconditional love and support he had long sought, shaping both his character and his sense of belonging.

“While I was here I learned that the staff would become my family, aunts, uncles, mothers and fathers. The school raised me and showed me the unconditional love that I had always longed for. And for that, they became my family that I would never forget, and I would love till the day I die.”

David Setzer

During his time as a student at Timber Ridge School, David Setzer received the 6th Annual Ron McDole Football Award, a huge achievement. After successfully finishing school, he worked for several companies in his career, becoming a top sales representative and later accepting a job offer as regional manager. From there, he moved into a managerial role in advertising and marketing and eventually became a franchise owner for 7+ years.

Today, David’s greatest pride is his family. He has raised two accomplished daughters: One, a graduate of UVA who is now pursuing her master’s degree on the path to becoming a doctor, and the other, an honor student preparing to enter medical school next year.

Reflecting on his journey, David shares:

“All of these things would have probably never happened if I didn’t attend Timber Ridge and get the self-discipline and confidence that I achieved after being in the program.”

Staff/Coach Honorees

Denise Boyd

Denise worked at Timber Ridge School for 23 years (1993-2016) and held the positions of overnight residential counselor, campus charge, and unit manager – all while coaching basketball.

She shared, “Basketball provided an opportunity for those boys to learn the importance of teamwork and learning the fundamentals of the game it built confidence and a positive outlet. A look at positive growth and development and doors it can open for their dreams and hope built positive relationships with each other.”

Denise’s involvement in our community continues to this day; she still serves youth and currently is a Behavioral Tech at Winchester Public Schools and works part-time with Connected Community.

Eric Cusick

Over the past two decades, Eric Cusick has dedicated his career to supporting and mentoring young people through education, counseling, and athletics. He began his career at Timber Ridge School (TRS) from 2000–2006, serving as residential staff and a case manager with the Sequoia Unit before transitioning into the role of Activities Coordinator.

During his time at TRS, he also served as the head football coach and helped establish a track and field program. Athletics provided an important outlet for the young men at Timber Ridge, allowing them to work toward a common goal, build self-confidence, and develop accountability to one another. His experiences at Timber Ridge taught him the value of patience, structure, and teamwork in supporting students through challenges.

From Timber Ridge, he transitioned into school counselor and coaching roles at other educational institutions, continuing to guide students both academically and personally while remaining involved in athletics as a coach and mentor, and even helped founded the Daniel Morgan Middle School football team in 2015, finishing the season undefeated.

Outside of school, family is at the center of his life. His wife, Joy, and he will celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary in August, and they are proud parents of their two sons, Julian and Jude.

Roger Ross

Roger Ross first came to Timber Ridge School as a substitute in 1993 while already an established teacher and coach at Paw Paw High School. When Roger retired from public school, he joined Timber Ridge School full-time in 2004 as a Student Life staff member. Today, Roger still works part-time at Timber Ridge School’s CTE Academy as a Career and Technical Education Coach.

Throughout his time at Timber Ridge School, Roger has been a steady and positive influence on young men as a teacher, mentor, and coach. It took a little “arm-twisting,” but he eventually agreed to co-coach the Titan Basketball team, and not only guided student-athletes on the court, but also taught them how to conduct themselves both on and off the court.

The Titans experienced many winning seasons during his tenure, but Roger’s greatest impact was helping young men learn how to succeed in the game of life.
